La tercera temporada de The Gentlemen suma estrellas y deja atrás a dos protagonistas

En 2019, el de The Gentlemen showed en Netflix that a story about British crime, inheritance and the chaotic worlds of the wealthy could travel far beyond its initial audience. Now, for its third season, the series created by Guy Ritchie is preparing a new chapter with several of its familiar faces leaving, three major additions joining the cast and a production that will once again move between the United Kingdom and Morocco.

A new generation of actors

Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom and Robert Carlyle are the three confirmed additions to the upcoming season. The production will be filmed in locations in the United Kingdom and Morocco, with the actors making their first joint appearance in a project directed by Ritchie, who returns to the screenplay alongside Matthew Read. Wood and Bloom also bring a connection that will be immediately recognizable for fans of The Lord of the Rings, since they shared the screen throughout the trilogy adapted from the work of J. R. R. Tolkien. This will mark their first work together since then.

  • Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom and Robert Carlyle join the cast.
  • Dexter Fletcher, Bruna Marquezine, Ed Speleers, Saffron Burrows and Bugzy Malone are also part of the expanded ensemble.
  • Theo James and Kaya Scodelario return, along with Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson and Vinnie Jones, among others.
  • Daniel Ings and Giancarlo Esposito will not appear in the third season.

The season will have eight episodes of approximately 60 minutes each. Moonage Pictures produces the series for Netflix and Miramax TV, while Evan Creevy shares directing duties with Ritchie. The roles to be played by the new cast members have not yet been detailed, but the change of faces already forms part of a broader transformation for the story.

The casino in the Middle East

At the center of the plot is Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James, and Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario. Their next ambition is to build a casino in the Middle East, a setting that opens the door to new alliances, conflicts and risks. The official synopsis asks whether James character's ambition has gone too far, suggesting that the third season will continue the shift in tone observed in the second installment, with less emphasis on comedy and more attention to the pressures surrounding the characters.

One of the most notable departures is that of Daniel Ings, who played Freddy Horniman during the first two seasons. The actor described his exit as a pleasant sense of closure, explaining that the arc of his character, described as wild, broken and deranged, had reached its conclusion. Ings also confirmed that the change of tone in the second season, with less comedy, was Ritchie's decision from the beginning of filming. Giancarlo Esposito will also not return to the series.

“Una sensación agradable de cierre.”Daniel Ings

This renewal of the cast raises an interesting question for the series' audience: the departure of familiar characters and the arrival of actors associated with very different registers can create a new balance, while the casino project promises to take the story into unfamiliar territory. For me, the most encouraging sign is that the changes do not appear as a simple replacement, but as part of an expansion of the world that the series has built. There is something I find particularly moving in Ings's words: he speaks about closure, and at the same time the story continues with new faces, new locations and new dangers. I am left with the expectation that this third season may find a different rhythm, but also one that preserves the human disorder and the dark humor that gave The Gentlemen its distinctive character.
