Tigre seventh to finish

Another match, another crisis, another goodbye. Diego Dabove resigned as Tigre coach after the defeat against Atlético Tucumán at the José Dellagiovanna stadium, with the team practically out of the playoffs. The decision was announced by the coach himself, who admitted that the final was marked by sadness and bitterness.

“Hablé con la gente del club y presenté la renuncia. Pedirle disculpas a la gente por este final, la tristeza y la amargura del proceso que claramente no fue bueno.”Diego Dabove

The resignation closes a cycle that began in January 2025. Dabove had managed Tigre in 81 matches and helped the club qualify for the Copa Sudamericana. But the project deteriorated during the final months, and the team entered a run of eight defeats without a victory.

The current situation is not isolated. With only 14 dates played, the Clausura has already recorded eight coaching departures: Walter Zunino at Platense, Eduardo Coudet at River, Israel Damonte at Aldosivi, Jorge Sampaoli at Talleres, Néstor Gorosito at San Lorenzo and Juan Pablo Vojvoda at Racing, among others.

A season of sudden endings

Adding the Apertura, the current football season has reached 27 coaches who left their clubs in the Primera División. The figure includes cases of very different weight: the end of Marcelo Gallardo's second cycle at River after the seventh date of the Apertura, Eduardo Domínguez's departure from Estudiantes to join Atlético Mineiro, Carlos Tevez's resignation at Talleres after the Copa Argentina? No: the elimination against Belgrano in the round of 16 of the Apertura, and Gustavo Quinteros's exit from Independiente after a heavy defeat to Atlético Tucumán in the Copa Argentina.

Also gone are Gustavo Costas at Racing, Claudio Ubeda at Boca, Rubén Insúa at Barracas Central, and the duo of Favio Orsi and Sergio Gómez at Newell's. In other words, the same instability appears in clubs with different traditions, budgets and expectations. The common thread is the inability to stop negative runs of five or six matches before the project reaches a terminal crisis.

  • Tigre's eight consecutive defeats ended with Dabove's resignation.
  • The Clausura has recorded eight coaching departures in 14 dates.
  • The current football season now includes 27 departures in the Primera División.
  • Several clubs have changed coaches after five or six consecutive matches without a victory.

The question is no longer whether Tigre will be the last example. It is how long clubs and coaches can keep pretending that a bad run is just a bad run, instead of treating it as the beginning of a collapse. The number can keep rising, because changing the coach is easier than explaining why the project failed. And that is precisely the problem: the next crisis is already waiting in the dugout, while the current one is still making room. La que viene, y la cancha.
